A burned-out salaryman in his late twenties collapses from overwork at a black company. After being told by a doctor that he will die if he continues, he quits and returns to his family home in the countryside to recover. His younger high-school sister, knowing his lonely situation, persuades him to audition for a virtual talent agency. To his surprise, he passes and debuts as the male VTuber Kanzaka Rei under the agency UnderLive.

From day one, his career is rocky. UnderLive is almost entirely composed of female VTubers, and being a male in that space draws immediate hostility from viewers. On his second day as a streamer, a fellow male debutant is caught in a scandal and fired, tarring Kanzaka by association. His own early streams are bland—what viewers call "nothing streams"—and he quickly accumulates a persistent group of antis who attack him without cause. Yet Kanzaka, hardened by years of corporate abuse, finds the online harassment trivial in comparison. Instead of cowering, he begins to deliberately absorb hatred meant for other VTubers, positioning himself as a shield for his colleagues.

The story follows Kanzaka as he navigates the chaotic world of live streaming: dealing with false rumors, getting blamed for unrelated controversies in the VTuber community, and slowly building a loyal fanbase that sees past the hate. His sister supports him from behind the scenes, managing logistics and cheering him on. Meanwhile, the other UnderLive members—eccentric women with distinct personalities—gradually recognize his self-sacrificing nature and try to pull him into their circle against his wish to stay distant. Major arcs include the introduction of a new wave of debutants, an emergency 3D reveal event where Kanzaka must help a co-worker who breaks her arm, and later a personal opportunity for his sister to receive her own Live2D model and possibly debut as a VTuber herself.

The narrative is told in two alternating parts: the main story from Kanzaka’s perspective, and a parody internet forum thread where anonymous fans dissect his every move. This structure highlights the gap between his real intentions and the wild speculation of viewers. The series is a comedy about a siscon salaryman who becomes an accidental lightning rod for drama, but its core theme is that the protagonist is not saving others—he is being saved by the community he tries to protect.
