Description
Countess Cerys Strahl has a naturally blank expression, a trait that leads her fiancé, Gilbert, to abruptly annul their engagement. He claims her emotionless face is cold and unreadable, and he has already transferred his affections to her stepsister. With her father deceased and her stepmother now head of the household, Cerys had already been reduced to doing servants' work. The broken engagement is the final push that forces her out of the home entirely. Gilbert arranges a new position for her: as a live-in maid at the Fourth Knight Order, a unit known derisively as the graveyard of knights because it is a dumping ground for misfits, lower-ranked nobles, and commoners with bad reputations. Expecting a lawless and dangerous place, Cerys arrives and is immediately attacked by a horned rabbit monster outside the gates. She is rescued by a handsome man who disposes of the creature with ease. He introduces himself as Jed, the knight commander of the Fourth Order. Despite the rumors that he is cold and ruthless, Jed is warm-hearted, openly affectionate, and completely charmed by Cerys. He is a natural flirt who dotes on her, calling her cute and praising her efforts even as she struggles with her new duties. Cerys, who has never been treated with such kindness before, begins to slowly open up and show emotions she thought she had buried. The story follows her daily life in the order, her growing bond with Jed and the other knights, and the complications that arise when her ex-fiancé Gilbert reappears and a handsome prince named Narsa takes an unexpected interest in her. Cerys must navigate these new relationships and choose her own path to happiness.
