Shingo Kanemoto

Shingo Kanemoto was a Japanese actor and voice actor born on October 12, 1932, in Fukuoka Prefecture. His real name was Moriteru Kanemoto. He was a graduate of Fukuoka Prefectural Fukuoka High School and was affiliated with the theatre company Gekidan Kawa. Standing 166 cm tall and weighing 77 kg, his hobbies included judo. He passed away on February 24, 1991, due to a brain hemorrhage at the age of 58.
Kanemoto built a prolific career in voice acting, with his work spanning anime, dubbing, and tokusatsu from the 1960s until his death in 1991. He was known for playing strong, serious characters, a typecasting that leveraged his origins from the Kyushu region. After his death, several of his ongoing roles were taken over by voice actor Takeshi Watabe.
He is perhaps best remembered for his long-running role as Ryu Nakanishi, the Horned Owl (G-5), in the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman franchise. He voiced the character in the original 1972 series, its sequels Gatchaman II and Gatchaman Fighter, as well as the compilation film Gatchaman The Movie. Another signature role was Hosaku Samon, which he played across multiple iterations of the baseball anime Kyojin no Hoshi, including the original series and the film Kyojin no Hoshi: Shukumei no Taiketsu. He was also the voice of the large mechanic Takezo Inukai in the baseball anime Dokaben.
In the various adaptations of Kaibutsu-kun, Kanemoto was a recurring presence, voicing the character Wolfman in the 1968 series and later taking on the role of Franken in the 1980 series and its associated films. His filmography also includes notable supporting roles in major anime of the era. He voiced Dick Lertoff in Fang of the Sun Dougram, Inspector Tawashi in the 1963 Astro Boy series, Giant Baba in Tiger Mask, and Kozun Graham in the Mobile Suit Gundam film compilations. He appeared in the GeGeGe no Kitaro franchise across different years, voicing various characters including Shigesaku and Kasa-obake. His credits also include the role of Akira Gonda in Kyōryū Tankentai Born Free, Yousuke Oohira in Akakichi no Eleven, Kei Marume in The Ultraman, and Pang Tong in the anime Sangokushi [2] Chōkō Moyu!.
Beyond anime, Kanemoto was a familiar voice in dubbing foreign content, providing the Japanese voice for characters like Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig in Looney Tunes productions. He was also the first voice actor for the character Kaminari-san in the 1979 Doraemon series, a role he played until 1990. In tokusatsu, he provided the voice for the antagonist, the Godmoth Emperor, in the popular series Dinosaur Expedition Born Free.
