Amélie Morin
Description
Amélie Morin, born Brigitte Morin-Brégeat on June 3, 1956, in Montreal, is a French-Canadian voice actor and singer who became a prominent figure in French dubbing during the 1980s and 1990s. Growing up in Quebec in a family involved in dubbing, she was initially hesitant to follow that path but was convinced to try it after being suggested for a role by a director. Her early work included voicing Paul in the anime Minifée and taking over the title role in Candy Candy, first for the Canadian version and then for the French adaptation when she moved to France. Her distinctive, childlike voice would go on to define numerous beloved characters for a generation of French viewers.
Morin's career is marked by an extensive list of voice roles in animated series. She voiced the character Jolie Mie in both the Tanoshii Moomin Ikka series and its sequel, Tanoshii Moomin Ikka: Bōken Nikki, also performing the theme song. Other notable roles include Joy in Monarch: The Big Bear of Tallac, Laura in High School! Kimengumi, Ulrich in Acrobunch - The Quest for Treasure, and the title character Tomoko in the film On a Paper Crane - Tomoko's Adventure. She was also the voice of Candy Neige André in the cult classic Candy Candy, Marie-Antoinette in Lady Oscar, and Sailor Venus in the various Sailor Moon series. Her work spanned numerous other popular shows, including roles in Nicky Larson, Ranma ½, and Dragon Ball Z.
In parallel with her dubbing career, Amélie Morin pursued a career as a singer. Her first album, J'étais venue pour dire bonjour, was released in 1981 and was a critical success, earning the Diamant de la Chanson Française award. Her music, often written by Jean-Yves Luley, featured childlike melodies with lyrical themes that were sometimes described as cynical or ambiguous. She released a second album, Drôle de dream, in 1982. Morin also performed the French theme songs for several anime series, including Sherlock Holmes, Mimi Cracra, and the Moomin series. Her work has been re-discovered by new audiences through anthology releases like Double écho in 2006, and she released a new album, Astral gramme, in 2008.
