Miyuki Ueda

Description
Miyuki Ueda is a highly respected Japanese actress and voice actress, renowned for her extensive career spanning from the 1950s to the present day. She was born on June 2, 1944. While some sources state her birthplace as Tokyo, others indicate she was born in Shanxi, China, where her father, a dentist, was working at the time, before her family repatriated to Tachikawa, Tokyo, after World War II.

Ueda's career in entertainment began at a young age. She made her debut as a child actor in 1954, winning the lead role in the popular Nippon Broadcasting System radio show Poppo-chan. This early success led to further roles, including appearances in the television drama Shōnen Tanteidan (The Boy Detectives Club). She later joined the NLT Theatre Company, where she performed as a leading actress in stage productions. Her foray into voice acting was inspired by her work dubbing foreign films, a field in which she would also become highly active.

Ueda is perhaps best known for her iconic roles in anime from the 1970s, particularly in the mecha and space opera genres. She became a defining voice in director Tadao Nagahama's "Romantic Trilogy" of super robot series. Her notable roles from this era include Chizuru Nanbara in Chōdenji Robo Combattler V, Megumi Oka in Chōdenji Machine Voltes V, and Erika in Tōshō Daimos. She also lent her voice to several key characters in the Space Battleship Yamato franchise, including Starsha and Teresa, the latter in the film Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato. Another landmark role was providing the voice for the ill-fated Queen Marie Antoinette in the classic historical drama The Rose of Versailles.

Throughout her long career, Ueda's voice work has been incredibly diverse. Her filmography includes roles in Mobile Suit Gundam I as Icelina Eschonbach, the title character in Andromeda Stories, Sachiko Seki in 8 Man, and Margot Frank in Anne's Diary: The Story of Anne Frank. She also voiced characters in series such as City Hunter, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman II, and Lupin III. In addition to anime, Ueda built a substantial career in voice dubbing for foreign films and television series. She is well-known as the Japanese voice of Kelly Garrett (played by Jaclyn Smith) in the popular series Charlie's Angels and also dubbed numerous Hollywood films for Japanese television broadcasts.

Beyond voice acting, Ueda has appeared in live-action television dramas, including guest roles in the original Kamen Rider and Barom One. In her personal life, she married fellow entertainment icon and singer Isao Sasaki in 1981. The couple, each bringing children from previous marriages, co-authored a book about their experiences titled Koshikon no Katamichi Kippu (One-way Ticket for a Remarriage with Children). Ueda is currently affiliated with her husband's agency, Isao Kikaku. Her enduring contributions have made her a beloved and legendary figure in the Japanese entertainment industry.
