Rick Thomas

Description
Rik Thomas, also known as Rick Thomas, was an English dubber and businessman who founded the Hong Kong-based dubbing studio Omni Productions. Before entering the entertainment industry, Thomas was a lieutenant colonel in the British Special Forces, serving in Vietnam and the Congo. He settled in Hong Kong in the early 1970s, and his career in dubbing began in 1972 when he was approached about the business at a pub. He eventually ran a dubbing studio called the Chasen Company before establishing Omni Productions with his wife, Ina Chow.

Thomas's voice work is primarily associated with the English dubs produced by Omni Productions for various Asian films and television series. He is particularly well-known among fans for his numerous roles in the Omni dubs of the Japanese Transformers anime series. In Transformers: The Headmasters, he voiced a wide array of characters, including the narrator, the Autobot Kup, the Decepticon leader Galvatron, the Autobot Alpha Trion, and the Decepticon combiner Predaking. His work extended to other series in the franchise, such as Transformers: Super-God Masterforce and Transformers: Victory, where he continued to voice the narrator and other characters.

Beyond the Transformers franchise, Thomas had an extensive career dubbing numerous Toho science fiction films, particularly those from the Heisei era of the Godzilla series. His notable roles in these films include Lieutenant Gondo in Godzilla vs. Biollante, Yasuaki Shindo in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, and Colonel Takaaki Aso in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. He also provided voices for other kaiju films such as the Rebirth of Mothra series and for films like Gunhed. His dubbing career continued into the 2000s with roles in Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, the Kiryu duology (Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Godzilla: Tokyo SOS), and his final contribution to the series, the Red Angel Media English dub of Godzilla Final Wars in 2004. Around 2005, Thomas and his wife sold Omni Productions and retired to Penang, Malaysia.
