Denise Simonetto was a highly respected Brazilian voice actress and dubbing director, whose career spanned over four decades and left a significant mark on the industry. Born in São Paulo on March 13, 1955, she began her journey in voice acting in the late 1970s after participating in a talent selection process at the Peri Filmes studio in Rio de Janeiro. After a brief hiatus from the profession upon returning to São Paulo in 1982, she was reintroduced to the field by colleague Waldir de Oliveira, which led to a prolific and enduring career.

Simonetto became a familiar voice to Brazilian audiences, particularly through her work in anime, tokusatsu, and live-action series. Among her most prominent roles in Japanese animation was the lead character Favo de Mel in the series Honey Honey no Suteki na Bōken. She also voiced the character Fluff in the film Enchanted Journey and contributed to Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid as the character Marina. Her work extended into the 2000s with roles in iconic magical girl anime, including Queen Serenity in Sailor Moon R, Sailor Star Maker in Sailor Moon Stars, and Nadeshiko, the mother of the protagonist, in Cardcaptor Sakura. In the universe of tokusatsu, she was the first voice of Anri in O Fantástico Jaspion and portrayed Tomoko in Cybercop – Os Policiais do Futuro, a series for which she also served as dubbing director. Her portfolio also included the role of Natássia in Os Cavaleiros do Zodíaco and Cammy in adaptations of Street Fighter.

Beyond her work in Japanese productions, Simonetto was widely recognized as the official Brazilian voice for several major Hollywood actresses, including Demi Moore, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, and Sigourney Weaver. One of her most beloved and iconic roles was providing the voice for the title character in the American series Punky, a Levada da Breca. She was also the first voice of the character Anjinho in the Turma da Mônica animated special A Princesa e o Robô.

Throughout her career, Simonetto was known for her versatility and talent, which earned her recognition from both peers and critics, including a Prêmio Yamato in 2003. In addition to her work as a voice actress, she became a prominent dubbing director, a role that became her main focus in her later years. She also studied Geography at the University of São Paulo (USP) and Nursing at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) before fully dedicating herself to dubbing. Denise Simonetto passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 70, leaving behind a vast and cherished legacy that shaped the childhood and adolescence of millions of Brazilian fans.
