Isabel Wolmar

Description
Isabel Wolmar was a Portuguese artist known for her extensive career in radio and television, as well as for her voice work in anime dubs. Born Maria Isabel Marques Silva in Lisbon on March 21, 1933, she began her career in radio before joining RTP, the Portuguese public broadcaster, in 1961 as a continuity announcer and presenter. Over the following decades, she worked as a reporter, news anchor for Telejornal, producer, and talk show host, presenting A Minha Vida Dava um Filme in 1995, often cited as Portugal's first talk show.

In the 1990s, Wolmar contributed significantly to the field of anime dubbing in Portugal. She is recognized for her extensive role in the Portuguese dub of the anime Sailor Moon, where she voiced numerous characters. Her roles in this series included Ami Mizuno, known as Sailor Mercury, and Hotaru Tomoe, known as Sailor Saturn, as well as a vast array of other characters such as several villains and monsters. In the anime Saint Seiya, she provided the voice for the character Andromeda Shun for the first 73 episodes, in addition to voicing other characters like Ophiuchus Shaina and Polaris Hilda. She also voiced the character Ratty in the Portuguese dub of the anime Tanoshii Willow Town, known in Portugal as Aldeia dos Pequeninos.

Due to the structure of dubbing production, Wolmar frequently voiced multiple characters within a single series, a practice noted in her work on Sailor Moon. It has been noted that she held a particular fondness for the character Hotaru from Sailor Moon and that she did not enjoy working on Saint Seiya due to its graphic violence. Isabel Wolmar passed away on July 21, 2019, at the age of 86.
