Carlos Marques was a renowned Brazilian voice actor, recognized for his extensive work dubbing numerous anime and Western animated series for the Brazilian Portuguese market. Born Carlos Marques de Oliveira on March 22, 1933, in Conselheiro Lafaiete, Minas Gerais, he built a prolific career that spanned several decades before his passing on April 19, 2021, in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 88.

His career in audio began in 1953 as a radio announcer and actor, working for prominent stations such as Rádio Itatiaia, Rádio Tupi, and the long-running Rádio Nacional, where he remained until 1981. Marques transitioned into dubbing in 1958, lending his voice to characters across numerous studios, including CineCastro, Herbert Richers, and Dublasom Guanabara, among others.

Marques became a familiar voice to Brazilian audiences, particularly for his work in animation. He voiced several iconic characters, such as D'Artagnan in the beloved series Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds and Derek Wildstar in the space opera Star Blazers and its sequels, The Comet Empire and The Bolar Wars. He also provided the voice for the titular hero in Alakazam the Great and took on the dual roles of Nylon and Prince Franz in the classic series Princess Knight. His range extended to other genres, voicing characters like Kosho Shinogi in the martial arts OVA Grappler Baki: The Ultimate Fighter and Fujimaru in the ninja series Shōnen Ninja Kaze no Fujimaru. He was also the voice of Shadow Boy in Bōken Shōnen Shadar, Terry in Ogon Bat, Jet Marte in Jetter Mars, and Slapper in Transformers: Robots in Disguise.

In addition to these roles, Marques' extensive portfolio included voicing some of the most recognizable characters in Western animation for Brazilian audiences. He was well known as the voice of Garfield in Garfield and Friends, as well as the Looney Tunes characters Daffy Duck (Patolino), Porky Pig (Gaguinho), and Elmer Fudd (Hortelino) in various dubs from the 1960s through the 1990s. His voice was also heard as Wheeler in Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Robin in Super Friends, and the live-action Spider-Man in the 1977 television series. Carlos Marques retired from dubbing around 2017, leaving behind a legacy as one of Brazil's most talented and classic voice actors.
