Shūhei Sakaguchi is a Japanese voice actor and narrator born on September 5, 1977, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He has been active in the industry since 1999 and is currently affiliated with the talent agency Aksent.
Sakaguchi's interest in voice acting was sparked during his high school years after listening to radio dramas. Following his graduation from Kinjo High School, he moved to Tokyo to pursue formal training. He graduated from the Tokyo Announcement Academy's voice acting course in 1997 and later from Visual Techno Academia in 1999. His professional career began that same year when he joined Mausu Promotion, formerly known as Ezaki Productions. After a period as a freelancer, he was affiliated with the agency D-Color from October 2008 until the end of 2013. In January 2014, he joined his current agency, Aksent.
Sakaguchi has built a substantial career voicing a wide range of characters in anime. Among his many roles are those listed by the user: Mest Gryder in Fairy Tail, Liu Xiao in Great Pretender, Bondo Garandо̄ in The aquatope on white sand, Shingo Shōji in the New Initial D the Movie series, Narcistole in Delicious Party♡Precure, Apollo in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, and Clint Barton/Hawkeye in Iron Man: Rise of Technovore. His other notable anime credits include Jugo in Naruto: Shippuden, Kyōsuke Kawachi in Yakitate!! Japan, Jousuke Tsunami in Inazuma Eleven, and Yusuke Takinoue in Haikyuu!!.
Beyond anime, Sakaguchi is highly active in video games and dubbing foreign films and TV series, known as fukikae. In video games, he is the Japanese voice of Hanzo in Overwatch and Biggs in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. His dubbing work is a significant part of his career; he is the primary Japanese voice actor for Hollywood actors Chris Pine, Lee Byung-hun, and Jeremy Renner. This includes dubbing Chris Pine as James T. Kirk in the Star Trek film series, Lee Byung-hun in numerous films such as the G.I. Joe series and Terminator Genisys, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also provides the Japanese voice for the titular character in The Mandalorian.
