Forty-year-old Satoshi Osako, a farmer in the Japanese countryside and a dedicated player of the VRRPG Swords Sorceries, finally defeats the game's final boss. In its dying breath, the boss curses him, causing a fatal accident that takes his life in the real world. With the assistance of a carefree goddess, he is reincarnated into a mysterious new world as his in-game character, the incredibly powerful Great Sage known as Zelos Merlin.

Zelos possesses overwhelming magical abilities, an unusually high level that far exceeds the limits of the world, and the unique skill to create new magic by deciphering the local magic language. Despite this immense power, his only desire is to live a peaceful, quiet life, likely as a farmer once again. The story is set in a standard fantasy world with its own magical systems, spirit kings, and a powerful theocracy known as the Holy Land of Metis. Unlike many isekai protagonists who seek to become heroes, Zelos focuses on a slow life, using his abilities for farming, crafting convenient magical tools, and even construction projects. Nevertheless, his reputation and power continually draw trouble. Notable narrative arcs include his time as a tutor at the Istol Academy of Magic, where his students must navigate school factions with the knowledge he gave them. He is also regularly enlisted by a group of rowdy dwarven builders to assist with difficult projects.

As the series progresses, the conflict escalates beyond simple bandits. Zelos becomes involved with a conspiracy involving reincarnators, heroes, and the true nature of the world. He encounters other beings summoned to this reality and confronts the Four Gods, powerful entities that threaten the stability of the world. Alongside a homunculus named Alfia, who retains the personality of a creator god, Zelos works to recover management authority over the world and prevent its destruction. Despite these high-stakes adventures involving the very fabric of reality, the core of the story remains Zelos’s humorous and often frustrated quest to return to the simple, agrarian peace he constantly seeks but rarely finds.
