Description
Arsène Lupin III is the grandson of Maurice Leblanc's legendary gentleman thief Arsène Lupin and a globally renowned master thief known for executing seemingly impossible heists. His birthplace is officially listed as unknown, and he carries on his family’s legacy by sometimes attempting to complete heists started by his ancestors. A master of disguise, vocal mimicry, lock-picking, and marksmanship, he also demonstrates remarkable agility, strategic brilliance, and a talent for inventing gadgets such as grappling-hook watches and smoke bombs. His personality blends a fun-loving, mischievous exterior with deep intelligence. While early portrayals depicted him as more violent, most animated adaptations refine him into a chivalrous anti-hero who avoids killing, refuses to steal honest money, and often helps those in need. He values the challenge of theft over possessing treasures and frequently discards or gives away stolen items. His consistent weakness is his infatuation with the femme fatale Fujiko Mine, whose betrayals he repeatedly forgives. He maintains deep loyalty to his partners, sharpshooter Daisuke Jigen and swordsman Goemon Ishikawa XIII, and shares a dynamic of mutual respect with his persistent pursuer, Inspector Koichi Zenigata. In the crossover with Detective Conan, Lupin targets a royal crown, motivated in part by a past promise. He impersonates Kogoro Mouri, avoids Conan’s tranquilizer dart, and helps expose the true culprit behind a murder. After the case is resolved, he returns the crown and acknowledges Conan’s true identity as Shinichi Kudo while promising future confrontations. Throughout, his approach combines meticulous planning with improvisational flair, using humor and misdirection to outwit opponents.
