Description
Lina Inverse is a young sorceress and the central protagonist of the Slayers series, first appearing in the light novels and later adapted into multiple anime seasons including Slayers Revolution. She was born in the fictional country of Zephilia and raised alongside her older sister, Luna Inverse, a formidable swordswoman whose mere mention terrifies Lina. Driven by an inferiority complex toward her sister, Lina chose to become a sorceress and enrolled in the Sorcerer’s Guild school, eventually developing into one of the most powerful human magic users in the world.

Lina’s personality is a blend of bold confidence, greed, and a strong but often buried sense of justice. She openly loves money, treasure—especially magical artifacts—and food, and she is not above stealing from bandits to line her own pockets. Despite her self-image as a beautiful and dignified sorceress, she is short-tempered, gluttonous, and prone to using excessive destruction with little provocation, particularly in the anime adaptations. She is widely known by unflattering nicknames such as Bandit Killer, Dragon Spooker, and the irreverent Lina the Pink, as well as more fearsome monikers like Empress of Destruction and Enemy of All Who Live. Underneath her selfishness, however, she actively hates evil and fights for what she believes is right, often risking herself for her friends.

In Slayers Revolution, Lina begins the story as a pirate hunter after bandits have become scarce across the land. She is arrested on false charges, which leads her into a larger conflict involving another incarnation of the Demon Beast Zannafar. During this journey, she meets a small, mysterious creature named Pokota, who surprisingly also possesses the ability to cast the Dragon Slave spell. Lina’s role in the story is that of a catalyst and powerhouse, driving the plot forward through her pursuit of treasure, adventure, and ultimately the resolution of the Zannafar threat.

Her key relationships define much of her development. She travels with Gourry Gabriev, a swordsman who becomes her closest companion and eventual romantic interest, though their relationship remains largely unspoken and comically awkward. Lina also befriends the chimera Zelgadis Greywords, the idealistic princess Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun, the priestess Sylphiel Nels Lahda, and the enigmatic priest Xellos. Each of these relationships challenges her perspective, softening her ruthless edges and deepening her commitment to protecting others. Her fear of her older sister Luna is a recurring source of both comedy and vulnerability, contrasting sharply with her otherwise fearless demeanor.

Notable abilities define Lina as a black magic specialist of immense destructive power. Her signature spell is the Dragon Slave, which calls upon the power of the dark lord Shabranigdu and can level entire cities. She also created the Ragna Blade, a high-precision beam that can pierce across multiple dimensions, and the extremely dangerous Giga Slave, which draws power from the Lord of Nightmares and nearly destroys the universe on first use. She is proficient in shamanistic magic as well, using spells such as Fireball, Lightning, Flare Arrow, and Ray Wing for flight. Her casting relies on vocal incantations; any interruption to her speech can cause catastrophic failure. Overuse of her strongest spells exacts a heavy physical toll, leaving her temporarily paralyzed or drained.

Throughout the series, Lina undergoes subtle growth from a reckless, self-serving adventurer into someone who consciously shoulders the responsibility of her power, often placing her friends’ safety above her own desires. Her development remains grounded in her core traits of greed, pride, and fierce loyalty, making her a memorable and enduring heroine.
