Description
Nojiko is the adoptive older sister of Nami, raised together in Cocoyasi Village by their adoptive mother, Bell-mère. She and Nami share no biological relation; both were war orphans from the Oykot Kingdom. As a toddler, Nojiko found the infant Nami amid the wreckage of a battle and carried her until Bell-mère discovered them. Bell-mère chose to adopt both children, raising them on a tangerine farm despite her poverty. When Arlong invaded the island and demanded a tribute, Bell-mère gave up her own life so that both girls could live, an event that shaped Nojiko deep sense of loyalty and responsibility.

Nojiko is a levelheaded and protective person. She is generous toward the villagers and sees Genzo as a father figure. During the years of Arlong rule, she discouraged others from recklessly rising up against the fish-men and tried to keep the peace while Nami worked on her secret plan to buy the village freedom. At the same time, she was Nami emotional anchor: she knew the truth about Nami deal with Arlong and supported her quietly. To help Nami feel less ashamed of the forced tattoo of Arlong jolly roger, Nojiko covered her own right arm and chest with tattoos as a gesture of solidarity. She is not a fighter by nature, but she is brave when needed, once being shot in the back by Captain Nezumi while trying to stop him from taking the money Nami had saved.

Her motivations revolve around protecting Nami and honoring Bell-mère memory. She wants her sister to be free and happy, and she believes in the power of will to keep living even in despair. After Arlong defeat, she entrusts Nami to the Straw Hat Pirates, recognizing Luffy as a hero who truly cares for her sister.

Nojiko role in the story is most prominent during the Arlong Park arc. She reveals Nami painful past to the Straw Hats and, alongside Genzo, risks her life to rescue Luffy from drowning after Arlong throws him into the sea. She performs CPR on Luffy and helps stretch his Devil Fruit-weakened body to keep him alive. Later, she appears in brief cameos, always glad to see that Nami is happy and thriving. After the two-year timeskip, she has grown her hair long, and she has inherited the tangerine orchard, launching a successful brand called Belle-mère Mikan.

Her key relationships are with Nami, whom she loves unconditionally; with Bell-mère, whose sacrifice she carries with respect; and with Genzo, the village leader who becomes a father figure to both sisters. She also develops a respectful trust in Luffy after he defeats Arlong.

In terms of abilities, Nojiko has no supernatural powers or combat training. Her strengths are emotional resilience, farming expertise, and the steady courage to stand up for her family. She is the caretaker of Nami tangerine trees, which symbolize their mother love and the home Nami always carries with her.
