Alvida, also known by her epithet Iron Mace Alvida, is a pirate and one of the first antagonists encountered by the series’ protagonist in the East Blue. She originally captains her own crew, the Alvida Pirates, commanding the ship Miss Love Duck, which is decorated with swan and heart motifs. Initially, she is a tall, obese woman with long black hair and freckles, wielding a large spiked iron club with superhuman strength. She is extremely vain, cruel, and terrorizes her subordinates, forcing the cabin boy Koby into servitude. After being defeated by a single blow from the protagonist, she disappears and later consumes the Sube Sube no Mi, or Smooth-Smooth Fruit, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. This fruit causes all excess fat to slip off her body, transforming her into a slender, conventionally beautiful woman with smooth skin, though she retains her long black hair and large hat. The fruit grants her skin a slippery quality that makes most physical attacks slide off harmlessly and allows her to slide across the ground at high speeds. Following her transformation, her personality becomes more relaxed, cool-headed, and coquettish, though she remains confident and vain. She forms an alliance with Buggy the Clown after rescuing him, and together they seek revenge on the protagonist. Alvida becomes a key member of Buggy’s crew, later serving as an executive in his mercenary organization Buggy’s Delivery and remaining with his faction when he forms the Cross Guild.
