Description
Dearka Elsman, Coordinator, born March 29 (Blood Type AB). His father, Tad Elsman, served on the PLANT Supreme Council for Febuarius, backing Patrick Zala in the First Alliance-PLANT War. This lineage fostered Dearka's early contempt for Naturals, whom he sarcastically labeled "weaklings." He graduated third in his ZAFT military academy class, behind Athrun Zala and Yzak Joule, earning the elite red uniform.
Assigned to Rau Le Creuset's team, Dearka joined the assault on Heliopolis, seizing the Earth Alliance's GAT-X103 Buster Gundam, a long-range artillery mobile suit. He battled the Archangel repeatedly, displaying arrogance and dismissiveness towards its crew and Naturals. He leveraged the Buster's firepower but occasionally underestimated foes like Mu La Flaga, mockingly dubbing him "old man."
Near Orb, critical damage to the Buster forced Dearka's surrender. Imprisoned aboard the Archangel, interactions, particularly with CIC officer Miriallia Haw, sparked change. After provoking her about her deceased boyfriend Tolle Koenig, she attacked him. Flay Allster attempted to execute Dearka, driven by her Coordinator hatred, but Miriallia intervened. Subsequent talks with Miriallia about Tolle's death and prejudice's futility led Dearka to reassess his beliefs about Naturals, recognizing perpetuated grudges fueled bloodshed.
Released during Orb's invasion by the Earth Alliance, Dearka reclaimed the repaired Buster Gundam and defected to aid the Archangel. He provided covering fire defending Orb and joined the Three Ships Alliance to end the war. At Mendel Colony, he confronted Yzak Joule, urging him to question ZAFT's motives. During the Battle of Jachin Due, Rau Le Creuset's Providence Gundam crippled the Buster, but Yzak rescued him. Post-war, demoted to regular soldier (green uniform), Dearka remained in ZAFT under Yzak.
In the Second Alliance-PLANT War, Dearka served in the Joule Team, piloting a black Gunner ZAKU Warrior and later a Blaze ZAKU Phantom. His combat adaptability expanded to close-quarters, defeating multiple mobile suits and battleships. He participated in Operation Angel Down and witnessed the Requiem superweapon devastate PLANT colonies. During the final battle, he assisted in destroying a Requiem control station. Post-war, promoted to deputy commander of ZAFT's Intelligence Division under Yzak, he piloted the nuclear-powered ZGMF-103HD Lightning Buster Gundam.
One year post-war, during the Foundation conflict, Dearka backed the Clyne Faction against rogue ZAFT elements aligned with the Foundation, engaging them to halt a coercive Destiny Plan variant.
Physically, Dearka stood 176 cm during the first war, growing to 180 cm in the second, and 184 cm by 2024. His hobbies include traditional Japanese dance. Post-war, his relationship with Miriallia Haw evolved, though they later separated.
