Zoey, a Pokémon Coordinator from Snowpoint City in Sinnoh, began her journey discovering an abandoned Glameow as a child. Unable to keep it at home, she secretly raised it at school with help from her teacher and friend Candice, who intervened to let Zoey care for Glameow until she became a Trainer. Glameow became her first partner. She serves as Dawn's primary rival and close friend, characterized by a supportive yet competitive dynamic. Zoey frequently guides Dawn, demonstrating Double Performance techniques for the Hearthome Contest and advising her to focus on natural appeal over flashiness after a loss in Solaceon. She exhibits strong loyalty, defending friends like when she battled Jessilina for Dawn despite a sprained ankle. Initially, Zoey firmly believed Trainers should focus solely on Contests or Gym battles, criticizing Ash and Nando for pursuing both. This stance stemmed from her childhood promise with Candice—Zoey aspiring to be Top Coordinator and Candice Champion—viewing dual paths as a lack of dedication. After witnessing Nando's Contest skills and reflecting, she apologized to Ash and acknowledged the value of learning from both disciplines. Her Contest achievements include winning the Jubilife ribbon by defeating Ash, Dawn, and Jessilina; earning a ribbon against Kenny's Prinplup; and reaching the Hearthome finals only to lose to Nando. She obtained her fifth ribbon in the Brussel Contest, qualifying for the Sinnoh Grand Festival. There, Zoey advanced through rounds using her evolved team—Gastrodon (from Shellos), Lumineon (from Finneon), Mismagius (from Misdreavus), Leafeon, and Gallade (from Kirlia). In the finals, she defeated Dawn in a close battle with Glameow and Gallade against Piplup and Togekiss, winning the Ribbon Cup and title of Top Coordinator. She then returned to Snowpoint, inviting Dawn to a celebration hosted by Candice. Zoey's Pokémon team reflects her growth and strategic versatility. Key members are Glameow, her first partner skilled in Iron Tail and Shadow Claw; Misdreavus, used for ethereal appeals, evolving into Mismagius; Shellos, caught in the same lake as Dawn's Buizel, evolving into Gastrodon; Finneon, showcased in the Wallace Cup appeal round, evolving into Lumineon; and Kirlia, used in Double Battles, evolving into Gallade for the Grand Festival finale. She also obtained a Leafeon noted for Magical Leaf. Her influence extends beyond Contests. She suggested Ash and Dawn trade their Aipom and Buizel after observing the Pokémon's preferences for Contest-style versus battle-style training. She also encouraged Ash to enter Dawn in the Hearthome Tag Battle Competition to bolster Dawn's confidence after a loss. Zoey maintains a strong bond with Candice, who frequently supports her during training and Ash's Snowpoint Gym battle. Her tomboyish demeanor is reflected in her Contest attire, often consisting of stylized suits.
