Description
Jotaro Kujo, born in 1971 to Holy Joestar (daughter of Joseph Joestar) and Japanese jazz musician Sadao Kujo, spent an ordinary childhood in Japan playing ball and running track. By age 17, he gained a delinquent reputation after severely injuring four armed gang members in 1988. Believing an "evil spirit" caused this strength, he imprisoned himself voluntarily. This entity was revealed as Star Platinum—a Stand manifestation of his fighting spirit—explained by his grandfather Joseph Joestar and Egyptian Stand user Muhammad Avdol. They linked its emergence to the vampire DIO's resurgence, which also triggered a Stand in Jotaro's mother Holy that threatened her life due to her gentle nature.
Accompanied by Joseph, Avdol, and reformed enemies Noriaki Kakyoin and Jean Pierre Polnareff, Jotaro journeyed from Japan to Egypt to eliminate DIO and save Holy. He protected allies and civilians during this mission, rescuing a runaway girl named Anne from drowning and Stand attacks. He demonstrated strategic brilliance against DIO's assassins, including bluffing gambler Daniel J. D'Arby to free captured souls. Avdol, Iggy, and Kakyoin died confronting DIO's forces. In Cairo, Jotaro discovered DIO's Stand, The World, could stop time. Star Platinum manifested the same ability during their final battle, enabling Jotaro to defeat DIO. He revived Joseph using DIO's blood and exposed DIO's remains to sunlight, curing Holy and ending the threat to the Joestar bloodline.
Post-conflict, Jotaro became a marine biologist, earning a doctorate with a thesis on Morioh's starfish. He investigated Stand arrows globally with Polnareff to counter DIO's followers. To shield his American wife and daughter Jolyne Cujoh from Stand dangers, he distanced himself, resulting in divorce and estrangement. In 1999, he traveled to Morioh to meet his half-uncle, 16-year-old Josuke Higashikata, after learning of Joseph's affair. He aided Josuke in defeating serial killers Anjuro "Angelo" Katagiri and Yoshikage Kira. As a mentor, he displayed increased patience and maturity but retained moments of intensity, like yelling at Josuke's friends during confrontations.
In 2011, Jotaro freed Jolyne after she was framed by Enrico Pucci, a priest loyal to DIO. He explained Stands and Pucci's plan to achieve "Heaven" using DIO's legacy. During an escape attempt, Pucci fatally wounded Jotaro and absorbed his Stand and memory discs. Jolyne revived him via her Stand's string ability. Against Pucci's time-accelerating Stand, Made in Heaven, Jotaro used his final time-stop to shield Jolyne from knives, sacrificing himself. This allowed Emporio Alniño to defeat Pucci, creating an alternate universe where Jotaro and Jolyne's counterparts live peacefully.
Standing 195 cm with a muscular build, Jotaro had green eyes, dark hair blending into his cap, and the Joestar star-shaped birthmark. His attire evolved: Part 3 featured a modified black gakuran with a chain-pierced collar and ornamented cap; Part 4 used predominantly white outfits with dolphin/palm symbols; Part 6 included detailed dark coats with "JOJO" insignias and snakeskin-textured pants. His Stand, Star Platinum, possessed immense strength, speed, precision, enhanced senses, and later the ability to stop time for up to five seconds.
Personality-wise, Jotaro maintained a stoic, aloof exterior, often uttering terse phrases like "Yare Yare Daze" ("Good grief"). Beneath this lay fierce loyalty, strategic intelligence, and a moral code opposing exploitation of the weak. His evolution from delinquent to mentor revealed significant maturation, though protective instincts caused familial neglect. Despite emotional restraint, he deeply cared for loved ones, mourning fallen comrades and sacrificing himself for Jolyne.
