Description
Triela, originating from Tunisia, was kidnapped and smuggled to Amsterdam by a Mafia child trafficking ring. She endured severe abuse: forced drugging, torture, sexual assault, and mutilation for snuff films, resulting in the amputation of her right leg. A Europol raid led by Victor Hartmann (later Hilshire) and Rachelle Belleut rescued her. Belleut performed life-saving CPR on Triela despite suffering a fatal gunshot wound; conditioned memories and the distinct smell of Belleut's perfume later caused Triela to misremember this event as involving her mother.

After rescue, Hilshire sought critical medical care in Italy, inadvertently delivering her to the Social Welfare Agency (SWA). The SWA subjected Triela to cybernetic augmentation and psychological conditioning, transforming her into an assassin. Horrified, Hilshire became her handler to protect her interests. As one of the SWA's first-generation cyborgs and the second oldest after Angelica, Triela received less intensive conditioning at Hilshire's insistence. This contributed to her longer lifespan but also allowed greater emotional complexity and occasional rebelliousness.

Her personality blended sarcastic wit, often directed at adults, with a pragmatic acceptance of her grim SWA reality. She acted as a mentor and supportive figure for younger cyborgs like Henrietta and Claes, offering moral guidance and emotional stability. She maintained a collection of teddy bears, naming her first seven after Snow White's dwarves and subsequent ones after Roman emperors. Initially dressed in masculine clothing chosen by Hilshire, she later adopted more feminine attire like pleated skirts and turtlenecks after expressing discomfort with standing out.

Her primary weapons were the SIG-Sauer P230 SL pistol (later replaced by a P232 SL after losing it in combat) and the Winchester M1897 Trench Shotgun, often fitted with a bayonet. She also demonstrated proficiency with various Heckler & Koch firearms, including the G3A3 battle rifle, P7M8 pistol, UMP submachine gun, and MP7 PDW. Her combat effectiveness could be temporarily impaired by menstrual cycles due to her largely intact anatomy.

A significant personal conflict arose with FRF assassin Pinocchio, who became her sworn enemy after defeating her in an early encounter. Their rivalry culminated in a violent confrontation resolved in Volume Five of the manga. As she aged, Triela began experiencing memory loss and drug withdrawal symptoms, mirroring Angelica's decline. Aware of her limited lifespan as the second-oldest cyborg, she acknowledged her likely impending death.

During the assault on the New Turin Nuclear Power Plant, Triela sustained severe injuries while holding off enemy soldiers to allow Rico and Henrietta to advance. Hilshire reached her to provide aid, but both were overrun. They died together in each other's arms; their bodies were later discovered by Marco. Hilshire's will revealed he had secretly preserved some of Triela's eggs. One was later implanted into Roberta Guellfi, who gave birth to Triela's daughter, named Speranza (meaning "hope").
