Description
Born in a Central Lands village, Heiter became a war orphan in childhood and grew up in an orphanage with Himmel and others. He displayed strong piety toward the Goddess of Creation and aptitude for her magic from a young age. Though outwardly annoying as a child, he often mediated disputes among the orphans. He initially dismissed Himmel as a "fake hero" due to his fake sword, questioning his capabilities, but Himmel later convinced him to join the quest to defeat the Demon King.

Heiter began the journey at sixteen alongside Himmel, recruiting Eisen as vanguard and later Frieren as their mage. Upon meeting Frieren, he estimated her restrained mana at one-fifth of his own, unaware of her concealment; this assessment later revealed his own immense mana pool, comparable to 500 years of training. Over the ten-year quest, Heiter maintained a cheerful, alcohol-loving demeanor, frequently using humor to ease tension and crying easily over emotional events or hangovers. Inwardly cynical about their chances, he resolved to trust his comrades even when doubting himself.

He possessed a shrewd and deceptive side. He leveraged Frieren's distorted perception of time to manipulate her into training the war orphan Fern long enough for the child to become a capable mage. He also fabricated a request for life-extending magic research to ensure Frieren remained committed to Fern's apprenticeship. Despite his flaws, he showed deep compassion, particularly for orphans stemming from his own past, fundraising for orphanages and later adopting Fern, raising her as his own.

As a priest wielding advanced Goddess's Magic, Heiter exhibited precise mana detection, identifying Frieren's restraint—a feat unmatched even by demons like Aura the Guillotine. His abilities included survival magic enabling subsistence without food, water, or oxygen for two months; stealth magic evading detection; healing magic; and exceptionally potent curse resistance known as the Blessing of the Goddess, demonstrated by withstanding Grausam's hypnosis magic.

His appearance evolved significantly. As a young priest, he was tall and bespectacled with slicked-back green hair, wearing black robes with gold accents. As a bishop in the Holy City of Strahl, he switched to white robes with gold-trimmed shoulder capes. In old age, his hair lightened, he developed wrinkles and a hunched back, used a walking stick, and wore simple gray tunics and capes.

After defeating the Demon King, Heiter settled in Strahl, becoming a bishop. He maintained correspondence with Eisen and continued aiding communities. Two decades after Himmel's death, a bedridden Heiter entrusted Fern to Frieren's care, succumbing to old age shortly after, having lived nearly 100 years. His legacy endured through Fern's growth and his influence on Frieren's journey to understand humanity.
