Pikachu journeys with Ash Ketchum, Misty, and Brock to Arborville and its forest. There, it battles Dundee's Croconaw, employing physical strikes and electrical discharges to win. Pikachu then spots Suicune near a riverbank. Later, in the forest, Pikachu accompanies Ash to meet Sammy, a boy displaced from the past, and the injured Celebi. It helps the group find the Lake of Life, remaining as Celebi heals overnight. When the Iron Masked Marauder captures Celebi with a Dark Ball, corrupting it and forcing it to build massive armor from the forest, Pikachu fights alongside Ash and the others. It attacks the corrupted Celebi and battles the Marauder's enhanced Tyranitar, though its electrical attacks fail against the amplified Dark Ball power. Pikachu then joins Ash and Sammy infiltrating Celebi's forest armor. After Celebi's temporary death and revival by other Celebi from across time, Pikachu aids in Celebi's rescue during the Marauder's escape attempt, damaging his jetpack and causing his capture. Pikachu observes Sammy's farewell to Ash before Celebi returns Sammy to his own time. It stays with Ash as the group later recounts their adventure to Professor Oak.
