Description
Reiner Braun, born to Eldian mother Karina Braun and an unnamed Marleyan father in Liberio’s internment zone, faced ostracization under Marley’s prohibition against Eldian-Marleyan unions. Fueled by his mother’s ambition for honorary Marleyan status, he joined the Warrior Program as a child, striving to mend his fractured family. Though physically and tactically outmatched by peers like Porco Galliard, Reiner’s unwavering loyalty secured him the Armored Titan at age ten—a decision orchestrated by Marcel Galliard to shield Porco from the role.

In 845, Reiner infiltrated Paradis Island alongside Warriors Bertholdt Hoover, Annie Leonhart, and Marcel, tasked with reclaiming the Founding Titan. After Marcel’s sacrificial death during a Titan attack, Reiner assumed command, igniting a spiral of guilt over Marcel’s demise and the catastrophic breach of Wall Maria, which claimed countless lives, including Eren Yeager’s mother.

Embedded within Paradis’ 104th Cadet Corps, Reiner adopted Marcel’s persona as a protective, dependable soldier, masking deepening fractures between his Marleyan mission and bonds with Paradis comrades. This duality fractured further after Marco Bodt’s murder, triggering dissociative episodes where he fully embraced his soldier identity. His unraveling psyche culminated in a desperate public confession of his Titan nature to Eren and the Scouts.

Returning to Marley burdened by survivor’s guilt and suicidal urges, Reiner endured the Marley Mid-East War’s horrors, remaining a tactical asset despite eroding mental stability. Tormented by self-loathing, he sought to shield younger Warriors Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, offering his Titan to Falco to spare Gabi. Later, he joined efforts to halt Eren’s Rumbling, driven by redemption and averting global annihilation.

Physically, Reiner transitioned from a muscular blond youth to a gaunt, taller adult sporting a goatee by 854. His 15-meter Armored Titan boasted plated armor shielding all but exposed joints and facial muscles, balancing defense with agility. Post-Rumbling, he reconciled with Karina, who embraced him without Titan status.

A strategist marked by duality, Reiner orchestrated infiltration tactics and covertly collaborated with Zeke Yeager under Marley’s watch. His arc—a confluence of propaganda, trauma, and conflicted loyalties—embodied the moral grayness of identity and war’s cyclical brutality.
