Description
Megatron is the tyrannical leader of the Decepticons in the anime Transformers: Armada. Millions of years ago, he rose seemingly out of nowhere, sweeping through the villages of the smaller, power-enhancing Mini-Cons and performing horrible experiments on them. He discovered ancient technologies that allowed him to rewire Mini-Cons to interface with Decepticons, drawing power from the slaves. After capturing all but a handful of Mini-Cons, he used his enhanced troops to assault Cyber City and defeat the Autobots in a single battle, plunging Cybertron into a long war. When the Mini-Cons attempted to flee the planet on a starship, Megatron attacked, but the damaged ship warped away and crash-landed on Earth. The signal from the ship's awakening eventually drew both Autobots and Decepticons to Earth, where the war resumed.

Megatron is not content with the conquest of Cybertron. When he learns of any power greater than his own, he does not merely attempt to defeat it; he will subjugate it, bend it to his will, carve up its corpse and integrate its power into himself. He demands complete submission from those around him. Any opposition is savagely crushed, any insubordination violently punished. He is a monster in every sense of the word. Yet he tempers this barbarism with regal militaristic formality. He calls his closest troops "gentlemen." He speaks politely and intelligently, with an air of sophistication, and makes it perfectly clear that he is completely aware of his own madness. His only weakness is his obsession with Optimus Prime. No matter how much power he attains, his final, glorious battle must be against him. On the occasions when Prime has seemingly been destroyed, Megatron has sunk into a deep depression, because once Optimus Prime is gone, there may be no further challenges in this universe.

Megatron's primary motivation is the acquisition of power and the domination of the universe. He seeks the Mini-Cons because they grant unimaginable abilities. After their awakening on Earth, he takes his elite squad to capture them, using his Mini-Con partner Leader-1 to supercharge his fusion cannon. He transforms into a massive military tank, equipped with Mini-Con prisons, storage areas, grabber claws, and traps. When Leader-1 attaches to his arm, it reveals a sword or becomes a hand-held weapon. Over the course of the story, Megatron acquires the three legendary Mini-Con weapons: the Star Saber, the Skyboom Shield, and the Requiem Blaster. He combines their power into the Hydra Cannon, intending to destroy Earth from orbit, but Optimus Prime sacrifices himself to absorb the blast. When the Autobots later resurrect Prime, Megatron is transported to a barren world, where he gains a power-up from the Mini-Cons and renames himself Galvatron. In this form, his power is greatly increased, and he can further combine with the massive Decepticon Tidal Wave for even greater strength. After returning to Cybertron and successfully overthrowing the planet using the Mini-Con weapons, he reluctantly allies with the Autobots when the cosmic entity Unicron reveals himself. However, once the common enemy is defeated, he immediately resumes his vendetta against Optimus Prime, engaging in a final one-on-one duel. After his defeat, he vanishes into the depths of Unicron as the giant escapes.

Key relationships include his rivalry with Optimus Prime, which is both his driving force and his greatest vulnerability. His second-in-command, Starscream, is perpetually plotting to usurp him, yet Megatron tolerates this because he finds Starscream's ambition useful or amusing. His Mini-Con slave Leader-1 secretly despises him and plots revenge, although Megatron treats Leader-1 as a mere tool. Megatron's other Decepticon subordinates, such as Demolishor, Cyclonus, Thrust, and Tidal Wave, follow him out of fear or respect for his brute power, while he views them as expendable assets. Among the Decepticons, he is known for frequently changing forms and becoming more twisted and evil with each new body.

Notable abilities include immense physical strength, a fusion cannon that can fire anti-matter blasts so powerful that the recoil knocks him backward, and strategic brilliance on the battlefield. He can interface with Mini-Cons to unlock hidden weapon systems, such as a concealed projectile launcher and combat knife. In his Galvatron form, his power is amplified dramatically, and he can combine with Tidal Wave to form an even deadlier armored configuration. He is also capable of commanding the loyalty of his troops through sheer terror, although his capacity for genuine care has eroded over time, leaving him solely focused on power and the eventual confrontation with Optimus Prime.
