Drago, initially called Salamander, serves as primary partner Bakugan to Dan Kuso in the original *Bakugan Battle Brawlers* series. A Pyrus Dragonoid, he descends directly from Genesis Dragonoid, one of the first Bakugan created by Code Eve. This lineage grants him the "Ultimate Warrior Gene," enabling extraordinary evolutionary potential and combat prowess. Originating from Vestroia, Drago exhibited a ferocious, territorial nature early on, displaying bias against non-Pyrus Bakugan. Partnering with Dan tempered his aggression, though he retained impatience and a hot temper mirroring his human companion. Over time, he developed a personality akin to an honorable knight, prioritizing justice, self-sacrifice for the greater good, and pacifism unless defending others or engaging in fair sport. He harbors deep disdain for those corrupted by power lust, such as Naga or Hydranoid, yet offers redemption to those who genuinely reform.
A pivotal relationship defines Drago’s emotional core: his bond with Wavern, guardian of the Infinity Core. They fell in love upon meeting in Vestroia, with Wavern affectionately calling him "Dragoruny." Tragically, Drago was forced to end Wavern’s life at her command to prevent Naga from seizing the Infinity Core. Her death left him devastated, yet her spirit persisted within the Core, guiding him in later conflicts. His love for her endures across all seasons despite her physical loss.
Drago’s physical form undergoes multiple evolutions. Beginning as Dragonoid (400 G-Power) with wyvern-like features and heat-radiation capabilities, his signature ability is Fire Tornado (transferring 100 Gs from opponents). He evolves into Delta Dragonoid (450 G-Power) during a battle with Julio, Chan Lee, and Klaus, gaining a forward-facing horn and cobra-like visage, plus the D-Strike Attack ability (+200 Gs). His next stage, Ultimate Dragonoid (550 G-Power), emerges after Dan defeats Shun, featuring enhanced strength and the Ultimate Dragon ability (nullifying opponent Gate Cards). Fusion with Wavern’s Infinity Core transforms him into Infinity Dragonoid (1000 G-Power), marked by a diamond chest gem, access to all six Attribute abilities, and the ultimate Dextra Attack.
In *New Vestroia*, Drago sacrifices his physical form to become the spirit of the Perfect Core, stabilizing Vestroia. Separated from the Core to combat the Vestal invasion, he regresses to Neo Dragonoid (400 G-Power), equipped with Perfect Core abilities like Strike Dragon (transferring 400 Gs) and Forbidden Abilities such as Vestroia X (attribute shifting). He later combines with mechanical Bakugan to form Maxus Dragonoid (340 G-Power) against Spectra’s Maxus Helios.
Subsequent series introduce further evolutions. *Gundalian Invaders* features Cross Dragonoid. *Mechtanium Surge* includes Helix Dragonoid (absorbing power from the Six Ancient Warriors), Lumino Dragonoid, Blitz Dragonoid, and Titanium Dragonoid. As Helix Dragonoid, Drago wields Battle Gear like JetKor, granting paralysis inducement. His final evolution, Fusion Dragonoid, merges technological and organic elements.
Drago’s powers expand significantly. Base abilities include fire/heat manipulation, space survival, accelerated development through battle, and reactive evolution. As Infinity Dragonoid, he gains reality warping (restoring Vestroia’s unified dimensions), conceptual alteration, portal creation between universes, and purification via the Infinity Core’s positive energy. He also resists fate manipulation and, after absorbing the Silent Core from Naga, gains immunity to negative energy corruption. Later forms incorporate abilities from allies like Apollonir (petrification resistance) and other Ancient Warriors.
In the 2019 reboot (*Bakugan: Battle Planet*), a reimagined Pyrus Dragonoid partners with Dan Kouzo. This incarnation shares predecessor traits—noble, passionate, and selectively loyal to Dan—but exists in a separate continuity. His evolutions include Hyper Dragonoid, Titan Dragonoid, and Dragonoid Maximus. An Aquos variant appears as the partner of Dan’s doppelgänger in *Outer Demons*.
