Description
Born Zen Shigaraki, All For One emerged as a central antagonist originating from the chaotic era following the first appearance of meta-abilities known as Quirks. He and his younger twin brother, Yoichi Shigaraki, were born to an unnamed sex worker who died during childbirth. Even in the womb, Zen exhibited a parasitic nature, absorbing the majority of nutrients at Yoichi's expense, resulting in Yoichi's frail health at birth. Immediately after their mother's death, Zen consumed her flesh, unknowingly absorbing her Quirk—marking him as one of the earliest natural Quirk users—and setting a precedent for his life of consumption and domination.

His early years were defined by indiscriminate violence and Quirk theft. During the societal upheaval of the "Great Awakening," he murdered countless individuals to amass abilities, driven by an inherent desire to possess and control everything around him. He regarded the world as his property, including his brother Yoichi, whom he kept confined under a guise of protection. Despite Yoichi's physical weakness and apparent Quirklessness, Zen forcibly granted him a power-stockpiling Quirk in a twisted display of affection. Unbeknownst to Zen, Yoichi possessed a latent "Bestowal" Quirk, which merged with the gifted ability to create One For All—a unique Quirk capable of voluntary transfer between users and resisting theft.

When Yoichi defected to join a resistance movement led by Kudo, Zen interpreted this as betrayal and personally killed his brother. This act cemented his obsession with reclaiming One For All, which he considered his "first possession." Over generations, he hunted and murdered its users, including Kudo, Bruce (the third user), and Nana Shimura (the seventh), while consolidating power as Japan’s shadow ruler and self-proclaimed "Symbol of Evil."

His reign faced a major setback when All Might, the eighth One For All user, nearly killed him in battle. Severely disfigured and reliant on life-support systems, Zen retreated into the shadows, orchestrating plots through proxies. During this period, he groomed Tomura Shigaraki, Nana Shimura’s grandson, as a successor. Exploiting Tomura’s traumatic past and hatred, Zen molded him into a vessel for his consciousness and transplanted his original Quirk into him. Though presenting himself as a paternal figure, Zen viewed Tomura solely as a tool to steal One For All, leveraging his malice to overwhelm the Quirk’s vestiges.

After a second defeat by All Might, Zen was imprisoned in Tartarus but engineered an escape by possessing Tomura’s body during the Paranormal Liberation War. He then pursued Izuku Midoriya, the ninth One For All wielder, aiming to complete his century-long goal. In his final battle, Zen activated a reverse-engineered "Rewind" Quirk to restore his prime body, temporarily regaining his youthful appearance. However, accumulated damage accelerated the Rewind effect, causing rapid de-aging from adulthood to infancy, then to a fetal state, and finally vanishing entirely as an egg cell.

Zen’s personality combined calculated charm with profound malevolence. He presented generosity to allies but discarded them callously, exemplified by abandoning followers like the Meta Liberation Army after their usefulness ended. His calm demeanor masked a god complex; he relished psychological warfare, taunting enemies like All Might and Endeavor about their failures. He rationalized his tyranny as restoring order, yet his core motivation stemmed from the childhood desire to embody a "Demon Lord" from comics he shared with Yoichi, seeking a world that existed solely for his sake.

Despite claims of affection for Tomura, Zen’s actions revealed pure manipulation. He implanted hands of Tomura’s deceased family to stoke hatred, and during the Paranormal Liberation War, he forcibly seized control of Tomura’s body, disregarding his protests. His final act—transferring all vestiges of One For All into Tomura—aimed to corrupt the Quirk entirely, underscoring his view of others as expendable instruments.
