Jōtarō Kūjō, born in 1971 to Holy and Sadao Kujo, lived an ordinary early life until age 17. The reawakening of the vampire DIO, an enemy of the Joestar bloodline, triggered Jōtarō's manifestation of a Stand ability. Initially mistaking this power for an "evil spirit," he imprisoned himself to protect others. This act prompted intervention by his grandfather Joseph Joestar and the Stand user Muhammad Avdol, marking the start of his journey to Egypt to defeat DIO and save his critically ill mother, afflicted by her own uncontrollable Stand. His Stand, Star Platinum, possesses exceptional strength, speed, precision, and visual acuity. In the final confrontation with DIO, Jōtarō discovered Star Platinum could stop time for up to five seconds, an ability later termed "Star Platinum: The World." While outwardly stoic and often perceived as aloof, Jōtarō demonstrated loyalty to allies and strong protective instincts, especially toward women and children. Significant bonds formed during his travels, notably with Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Avdol. Years later, working as a marine biologist, Jōtarō investigated Stand-related incidents in Morioh during 1999. There he encountered his illegitimate uncle, Josuke Higashikata. He displayed increased maturity during this period while retaining his characteristically blunt demeanor. He later involved himself briefly in events surrounding DIO's son, Giorno Giovanna, dispatching Koichi Hirose to Italy for surveillance. By 2011, Jōtarō's relationship with his daughter Jolyne Cujoh was strained due to prolonged absences motivated by a desire to protect her from enemies targeting the Joestar family. When Jolyne was wrongfully imprisoned at Green Dolphin Street Penitentiary, he arrived to facilitate her escape. This intervention was anticipated by Enrico Pucci, a disciple of DIO. Pucci used his Stand, Whitesnake, to extract Jōtarō's Stand and memory discs, rendering him comatose for most of the ensuing conflict. Jōtarō remained incapacitated until the latter stages of Pucci's plan to achieve "heaven" as envisioned by DIO. Allies recovered and returned his Stand disc, leading to his revival by the Speedwagon Foundation. He rejoined the fight at Cape Canaveral during Pucci's Stand evolution into Made in Heaven. Confronted with a barrage of knives accelerated by time manipulation toward Jolyne, Jōtarō interposed himself, stopping time to shield her. This sacrifice resulted in his death on March 22, 2012. Following the collapse of Pucci's alternate universe, a reset reality emerged. Within this new world, Jōtarō's essence seemingly reincarnated in a man referred to as "Irene's father," implying a potential reconciliation of his paternal relationship under different circumstances.
