ONA
Description
Anaï is an anthropomorphic Japanese badger who joins the accounting department of a trading firm as a newly graduated accountant. He has peach-colored fur, light brown stripes around his gray eyes, thick black eyebrows, and typically wears a white dress shirt with a blue tie, gray pants, and brown dress shoes. On the surface, he appears pleasant, enthusiastic, and eager to impress, but this exterior masks deep insecurity and neuroticism. He is extremely sensitive to criticism, which he perceives as personal attacks, and his fear of workplace mistreatment drives him to paranoid behavior: he insists on written communication, sends threatening emails to colleagues, and secretly records conversations on his phone for protection. His difficult behavior creates tension in the office, especially with Retsuko, who is assigned to train him and becomes a primary target of his confrontational emails and accusations.
A turning point comes through the maternal mentorship of Kabae, a nurturing coworker who speaks with him gently and offers unexpected praise. With her encouragement, Anaï begins to mellow, using his talent for cooking to connect with others. He prepares homemade meals and sells them at company festivals and office events, gradually building friendships and becoming a more integrated member of the team. He also has a girlfriend named Hakumi, who supports him in editing a book he is publishing. Despite his progress, Anaï remains fragile. When Kabae temporarily resigns from the company, he becomes unenthusiastic and pessimistic, even threatening legal action. His demeanor stabilizes only after her return, though lingering traces of his earlier anxiety occasionally resurface.
