Description
At the prestigious Kuromi Girls Academy, an institution that forbids video games and expects its students to embody grace and elegance, a secret war is being fought. The story centers on Aya Mitsuki, a scholarship student from a modest background who enrolled hoping to reinvent herself as a proper young lady. Her quiet admiration is fixated on Mio Yorue, the school's idol known as Shirayuri-sama, a girl of breathtaking beauty and impeccable behavior. This illusion shatters when Aya discovers Mio alone in a classroom, not studying poetry, but screaming insults at an online opponent in a heated fighting game match.

Far from being ashamed, the ruthless and trash-talking Mio immediately challenges Aya to a duel. To Mio’s surprise, the unassuming Aya proves to be a skilled player, having been a fighting game prodigy in her childhood before giving it up to pursue her new ladylike image. This chance encounter reignites Aya's passion for competition. The two form an unlikely secret alliance, sneaking away from their studies to play matches in abandoned club rooms, forming a bond through their shared obsession with combos and frame data. Their covert hobby becomes more complicated when they are discovered by Yu Inui, a cheerful heiress whose family sponsors major gaming tournaments, and Tamaki Ichinose, a haughty student council member driven by a deep inferiority complex towards her older sister. Together, this mismatched group secretly forms Team Lily to enter ExJapan, the country's biggest fighting game tournament.

The live-action adaptation shifts the fictional game from the manga to the real-world Street Fighter V, grounding the action in authentic competitive gaming terminology. The narrative follows the formation of Team Lily as they navigate regional qualifiers, facing off against colorful rival teams like the intimidating Osogami group and a team of surprisingly skilled salarymen. As the tournament progresses, each character grapples with personal stakes. Yu plays using a character tied to her late grandfather’s legacy. Tamaki struggles to overcome her rigid mindset to master a technical character. Mio, who views fighting games as her sole reason for being, faces a crisis when her skills alone might not be enough to win.

The series also expands the school setting with original characters, including Mamiya Yumeko, a jealous rival of Mio who actively schemes to expose their secret gaming club to the faculty. This creates a constant threat of expulsion that looms over the protagonists. The drama culminates in the national finals, where the girls face professional gamers. However, the conclusion diverges significantly from the source material. Faced with severe financial problems at home that jeopardize her place at the academy, Aya is forced to choose between the security of her future and her love for the game. Ultimately, Team Lily dissolves, with Aya quitting fighting games to focus solely on her studies. The series ends on a bittersweet note as Mio, unwilling to live a lie, voluntarily leaves the academy to pursue gaming in the United States, while a now-graduated Aya is seen years later, tentatively picking up a controller at an arcade, hinting at a possible reconciliation with her lost passion.
