Manga
Description
An unsuccessful professional mangaka, RObou-sensei, has just had his series officially canceled, known in the industry as being axed. Dejected and questioning his future as an artist, he turns to social media for a distraction. There, he stumbles upon an account belonging to an enthusiastic fan who is absolutely obsessed with his now-defunct work. To his surprise, this fan announces plans to create and sell doujinshi, self-published fan comics, based on his series at an upcoming convention. Desperate to meet even one person who genuinely appreciated what he drew, RObou decides to attend the event. This decision sets the stage for a miscommunication comedy where the professional creator and his most passionate supporter repeatedly talk past each other.

The story centers on the growing relationship between two contrasting protagonists. RObou is an artist grappling with professional failure, creative burnout, and a shaken sense of identity. The female lead, later named Sumi, is a wealthy and deeply invested doujin creator who operates entirely outside the commercial publishing system. Her vibrant, community-driven world is free from the pressure of editors and sales rankings, but it faces its own challenges of financial instability and a lack of mainstream recognition. Their initial interactions are chaotic and built on false assumptions, as RObou tries to hide his identity as the original author while Sumi remains unaware of who he truly is. Together, they represent two sides of a central debate about artistic value: commercial success versus personal passion.

The setting is contemporary Japan, moving between the lonely workspace of the struggling mangaka and the energetic, crowded floors of doujinshi conventions. The narrative explores the harsh realities of the manga industry, treating the protagonist's failure not as a quick obstacle but as an emotional wound that requires time and human connection to heal. Simultaneously, it offers a respectful portrayal of doujinshi culture, highlighting its community, creativity, and pride. Notable narrative arcs include the initial double chapter debut where RObou discovers Sumi’s fan account and attends the convention, followed by weekly chapters that push the tension of his hidden identity further. The story also delves into the financial gap between the broke, insecure creator and his wealthy fan, adding a unique layer to their power dynamics and perspectives on artistic value. As the series progresses, their bond deepens through mutual curiosity and creative respect, with both characters helping each other rediscover their love for drawing. Key themes include creative burnout, the tension between commercial and personal art, and the search for self-worth beyond external validation.
