Louis is an orphan who has just come of age in a small, impoverished village. The only obstacle is the exorbitant tuition. To raise the necessary funds, Louis registers with the local Adventurer's Guild, where he meets Bolt, a mysterious and seasoned adventurer who immediately insists on forming a party with the inexperienced young man. Bolt takes Louis under his wing, helping him save for school fees while they undertake various quests together.

However, this fantasy world, which includes beastfolk who resemble humanoid animals, holds hidden complexities. Bolt is not who he appears to be, and Louis discovers that his own past is shrouded in secrets that could overturn everything he believes about himself. While Louis focuses on his studies at the academy, navigating the life of a commoner among noble peers and befriending a student named Alford, a larger political plot concerning his true heritage and government corruption begins to take shape in the background.
