Description
Jikkai High is a bottom-tier school with a low academic score of just nine, serving as a gathering place for delinquents from all over the country where new transfer students arrive almost every week. The protagonist, Jou Sago, is terrible at fighting and spends his days being looked down on by everyone around him. His life takes an unexpected turn when the strongest delinquent of them all, Gokuu Hitomi, transfers into the school.

The story draws clear parallels to the classic novel Journey to the West, with Sago corresponding to Sha Wujing, his companion Chogo representing Zhu Bajie, and Gokuu embodying the Sun Wukong archetype. The manga introduces a unique gacha system that serves as its central mechanical conceit, allowing characters to pull for abilities, fighters, or other assets through what appears to be a randomized reward system. Rather than relying on traditional shonen power scaling, the series embraces unpredictability and chaotic storytelling, often subverting expectations about how power-ups and victories should function.

Early narrative arcs establish the hierarchy of Jikkai High as Sago struggles to survive in an environment where fighting prowess determines social standing. The arrival of Gokuu Hitomi, a figure of overwhelming strength, forces the existing power structures to collapse and reorganize around him. As the series progresses, the conflict escalates beyond typical schoolyard brawling. New antagonists arrive in the form of exchange students whose designs are described as bizarre, abstract, and borderline incomprehensible, pushing the protagonists into situations that feel disconnected from normal reality.

A significant turning point occurs when Gokuu demonstrates the ability to hack the gacha system itself. Rather than relying on luck and random chance like the protagonists, he weaponizes the mechanic, summoning a genuinely terrifying entity that immediately shifts the battlefield dynamic. This moment establishes that the antagonists can also utilize the gacha system, removing any sense of protagonist privilege or guaranteed safety. The main trio finds themselves overwhelmed and outplayed, forced into a desperate tactical retreat for the first time.

The narrative takes an even more unconventional turn when the gacha system produces what appears to be a meta moment the author of the story appearing to inform the protagonist that his situation is hopeless. This development suggests that the gacha may not simply grant direct rewards but might manipulate reality in indirect ways, fundamentally questioning the reliability of the entire power system.

From this seemingly hopeless situation emerges Sago's old friend from earlier chapters, who has transformed off-screen into an absurdly muscular figure fans have nicknamed CHONKO. Without buildup or logical explanation, CHONKO arrives to save Sago from a brutal situation, embodying the series embrace of chaotic, unpredictable resolutions. The contrast between gritty delinquent aesthetics and bright, sparkly gacha visuals creates a distinctive visual identity that reinforces the tonal whiplash between serious fighting and absurdist comedy.

The series has generated fan theories about potential expansion beyond the school setting, with speculation about world travel arcs, international gacha factions with different banner systems tied to specific regions, and reality-breaking mechanics that could escalate the conflict far beyond Jikkai High. Some readers have drawn comparisons to series like Dandadan and Undead Unluck, which began with contained premises before exploding into full-scale, world-spanning chaos.
