Description
On an April night in Tokyo, university student Kakeru Sorano, an introvert carrying emotional trauma from past relationships, meets Koharu Fuyutsuki, a woman who laughs often and exudes a warmth that contrasts sharply with his own withdrawn nature. What Kakeru does not realize at first is that Koharu is blind. Despite losing her sight due to an illness, Koharu has not let this diminish her joy for life. She attends university daily, is interested in clubs, makes friends, and most importantly, cherishes a dream to launch fireworks one day. Kakeru wonders why she would want to see something she cannot see, but he finds himself drawn to her bright and forward-looking personality.
As Kakeru begins supporting Koharu with her coursework, treating her naturally without the special consideration she often receives from others, Koharu in turn becomes attracted to him for his kindness. Having avoided deep relationships due to a past incident, Kakeru nevertheless decides to help fulfill Koharu's wish from her things I want to do in life list: to launch her very own fireworks display. Through this commitment, he begins to confront his own fears and the walls he has built around himself, slowly moving forward for the girl who has always been by his side.
The story follows the deepening bond between Kakeru and Koharu as he dedicates himself to making her seemingly impossible dream a reality. This narrative also extends into a related sequel, Yoru ga Aketara Asa ga Kuru, which shifts focus to Asa, a high school student and passionate fan of the singer Yoru. When Asa learns from her mother that she was switched at birth, she goes on a journey to meet her birth mother and discovers that the baby she was switched with is Yoru herself, the very singer she idolizes.
The manga adaptation is illustrated by Hat and began serialization on Square Enix's Manga Up! service in August 2024.
