Little Busters! EX The 4-Koma is a sequel to the earlier four-panel gag manga Little Busters! The 4-Koma, itself adapted from the Key visual novel Little Busters! Ecstasy. The story returns to the high school life of protagonist Riki Naoe and his circle of friends known as the Little Busters. Orphaned as a child, Riki was pulled from his depression by the group’s founder, Kyousuke Natsume, and has since grown close to his classmates: Kyousuke’s younger sister Rin, the muscle-obsessed Masato Inohara, the stoic Kengo Miyazawa, the gentle Komari Kamikita, the energetic Kudryavka Noumi, the mature Yuiko Kurugaya, the shy Mio Nishizono, and the mischievous Haruka Saigusa. In this continuation, the focus expands to include three new characters introduced in the Ecstasy version of the visual novel: Saya Tokido, a mysterious transfer student who appears to be a secret agent; Sasami Sasasegawa, a girl with a complex about her height; and Kanata Futaki, the stern student council president. The manga is structured as a series of short, comedic vignettes that highlight the everyday antics and interactions of this enlarged cast. Much of the humor stems from Saya’s spy-themed misadventures, Kyousuke’s outlandish self-appointed missions, and the group’s playful banter. While there is no overarching dramatic plot, recurring narrative threads include Saya’s attempts to keep her secret identity hidden, the group’s collaborative school projects, and their general efforts to enjoy their youth together. The setting remains the same school and surrounding town, preserving the slice-of-life atmosphere of the original series.
