Description
High school student Masamichi Kusano is a practicing Buddhist monk. His classmate, the energetic and fashionable gal Eri Takegahara, dies in a plane crash while heading to a southern island. Kusano is chosen to deliver the eulogy at her funeral, but when he arrives at the crematorium, he finds Eri's ghost is still there, as lively as ever. Rather than passing on, she lingers as a spirit with a full head of steam. After a brief, bewildering conversation, the two strike a deal: Eri's list of earthly desires must be fulfilled before she can move on, and Kusano, as the only person who can see or hear her, is the one who has to help. The story follows this unlikely pair through a series of comedic, wish-fulfillment episodes. Eri wants to go back to school, take purikura photos, visit a club, get a boyfriend, cook a meal, go to a night pool, and countless other things she never got to do. With every fulfilled wish, she remains as stubbornly attached to the world as ever, and Kusano's efforts to guide her toward enlightenment are constantly derailed by her relentless, positive attitude. As the deadline of the 49th day after her death approaches, the pressure to complete her wishes builds, and the pair encounter a growing cast of eccentric friends and classmates who inadvertently complicate the process. The series blends supernatural comedy with everyday high school life, culminating in a bittersweet resolution about letting go. The main characters are Masamichi Kusano, a serious but easily flustered young monk, and Eri Takegahara, a brash, carefree ghost who refuses to let death stop her from enjoying herself.
