Asahi Mononobe is a high school freshman who loves a once-popular battle hobby called Battle Pin. He is deeply shy and prone to freezing up or making awkward sounds whenever he tries to talk to other people, but underneath that nervous exterior he genuinely longs to experience a proper youth. His only real companion is his Battle Pin partner, Red Sun, a pin-shaped figure with whom he can speak and even physically merge.

The story begins when Asahi and Red Sun are suddenly pulled from their ordinary daily life into a high-stakes conflict that threatens the survival of Earth. An alien force known as the Cats begins to invade, and the Battle Pins turn out to be more than just retro toys — they are weapons in a hidden war. Asahi must learn to fight alongside Red Sun while still trying to navigate school life, make friends, and pursue the youthful experiences he has always wanted.

The conflict escalates when a shady company called Tanaka Hobby appears. This company developed and sells Battle Pins, and its true motives are unclear. Tanaka Hobby announces the First Battle Pin Koshien, a tournament that draws in rival players and deepens the mystery surrounding the Battle Pins and the Cat invaders. Asahi confronts opponents who are also connected to the battle hobby, and the line between friendly competition and life-or-death struggle blurs. Throughout it all, Asahi struggles to grow as a fighter and as a person, trying to protect the people around him while chasing the normal high school life he dreams of.
