After discovering his girlfriend Maki cheating on him during her working holiday in Australia, afro-haired tunnel digger Hiroshi Tanaka quits his job at the construction company and sets out on a journey of self-discovery. He buys a motorcycle, returns to his hometown in Saitama, and is soon joined by his old friend Murata. Together they travel from Hokkaido to Okinawa, meeting a series of eccentric characters along the way—including a free-spirited female hitchhiker, a group of drifters at a cheap Okinawan guesthouse called Tsukimi-so, and a variety of coworkers and acquaintances from Tanaka’s past. The story follows Tanaka’s attempts to shake off the trauma of heartbreak, his aimless wanderings, and his gradual, often comical, re-engagement with life. After the journey, he returns to work, faces the possibility of rekindling his relationship with Maki, and eventually begins to move forward. The series is an episodic, gag-driven comedy that blends crude humor with moments of genuine melancholy, set against the backdrop of early-2010s Japan and centered on Tanaka’s distinctive afro and his perpetually immature but oddly endearing outlook.
