A young apprentice magician named Asley, mocked for his lack of talent and failing his entrance exams, accidentally creates a legendary elixir called the Ancient Elixir or Eternal Dew during a laboratory mishap. Consuming it grants him and his loyal Siberian husky familiar, Pochi, both immortality and ageless bodies. Embracing a hermit’s life, Asley spends the next five thousand years in seclusion, obsessively studying and mastering ancient magic and sorcery that the world has long since forgotten. When Pochi finally insists on fresh air and a return to society, Asley ventures out into a changed world where his once-ridiculed abilities now mark him as a supremely powerful anomaly. Together with Pochi—an 800-year-old talking dog who is both a sensible advisor and a comic foil—Asley sets out to drop his unwanted titles, rebuild a normal life, and maybe even enjoy a second youth.

A major narrative thread involves the looming revival of the Demon King, a threat the current generation is ill-prepared to face due to declining faith and reliance on legendary heroes of the past. Asley also becomes entangled in political intrigues, including a mission to free indentured girls in the city of Veilaneia and a secret operation with the sage Tus from the Far East. Through bickering, camaraderie, and Pochi’s relentless “friendly advice,” Asley gradually confronts the weight of his eternal life, the darkness stirring across the land, and the possibility that he might be the unlikely hero the world needs.
