Description
Six years into their marriage, Murakami Ayako, who works in fashion media, and her husband Yutaka, a municipal office employee, barely see each other on most days. Both hold full-time jobs, their schedules constantly clash, and they have no children. Yet the couple remain deeply affectionate, still calling themselves newlyweds, and their intimate life shows no sign of cooling. The key to this lasting closeness is the nightly ritual they guard above all else: sitting down together for a drink at home.

Each evening, no matter how late or tired either of them is, the Murakamis share a table, pour glasses of beer, wine, or sake, and let the conversation flow freely. The alcohol loosens their tongues and lowers their guards, leading to frank talk about work frustrations, silly jokes, and genuine heart-to-heart exchanges. These nightly sessions are the space where misunderstandings are resolved, affection is reaffirmed, and minor irritations are smoothed over before they can fester. For them, a shared drink is not merely a habit but the engine that keeps their bond resilient.

As the series progresses, the couple's life together deepens through encounters with the people around them. Ayako's divorced colleague Sayuri struggles to open herself to new romance, and Ayako and Yutaka host a homemade pizza party that helps her take a hesitant step forward. The couple themselves face a major turning point when Ayako, observing the different family models among their friends, quietly asks Yutaka whether he wants to have children. The question hangs over multiple chapters as they weigh the desire for a child against the joy of their current two-person life, a decision that neither can resolve easily.

Beyond this central dilemma, the story follows the Murakamis through the changing seasons and the small adventures that each one brings. They try a no-alcohol challenge to test their reliance on drinking, experiment with low-calorie evening meals to get in shape, and learn to make up after their rare arguments with a conciliatory toast. Summer brings a night-pool drinking outing and a home beer garden; winter ushers in a frozen-food feast over the New Year holidays. Visiting an oyster delivery, they debate the merits of sticking with tried-and-true favorites versus trying something new. Watching a reality dating show together becomes a chance to replenish their own romantic energy. Throughout these episodes, the constant is the clink of glasses and the warmth of two people who genuinely enjoy each other's company, discovering that the secret to staying close is simply taking the time, every evening, to connect.
