Manga
Description
Misano Neko is a twenty-five-year-old unemployed aspiring manga artist. After yet another unproductive meeting with his editor, he returns home feeling defeated. There, standing outside his door, is a man with the unsettling appearance of a murderer. The man looks at Neko, calls him God, and begins to shower him with relentless, inexplicable kindness. Neko has no idea who this stranger is or why he is being treated as a deity. What follows is a tense, absurd, and often comedic struggle as the cynical, self-doubting Neko tries to figure out the identity and motives of his mysterious new fan. The man’s devotion is overwhelming—he seems to know everything about Neko’s work and follows him around with an almost fanatical loyalty. Set in a contemporary Japanese city, the story unfolds as a coming-of-age comedy that blends slice-of-life humor with lightly sci-fi or fantastical undertones. As Neko reluctantly accepts the man’s help, their strange relationship forces him to confront his own creative insecurities and the possibility that someone might genuinely believe in his talent. The narrative balances laugh-out-loud awkwardness with heartfelt moments of connection, building toward a deeper understanding of what it means to create and to be seen.
