Manga
Description
As a father, manga artist, and ordinary middle-aged man, Sensha Yoshida records his outings in a lighthearted essay manga that blends everyday adventures with subtle humor. The series follows him as he yields to the temptations of daytime drinking, diligently researches the ideal nori bento box, regularly attends ekiben fairs, and savors bowls of standing‑soba noodles. Most excursions are solo, but occasionally his family joins in: his daughter, simply called Musume, who grows from elementary school into a middle schooler, and his wife, fellow manga artist伊藤理佐, whose eccentric comments and offbeat vocabulary provide a running comic counterpoint. The setting ranges from familiar neighborhoods and local shops to distant prefectures and even a family trip to France. Across the volumes, the narrative arcs reflect real‑world changes: the early chapters celebrate the freedom of spontaneous exploration; the pandemic‑era installments shift to rediscovering nearby spots when long‑distance travel becomes difficult. Later volumes chronicle Musume’s graduation from elementary school, her father’s proud but often clumsy role as her lunch‑box maker, and his own approach to turning sixty. Threads such as the ongoing nori‑bento research and the occasional sighting of a stuffed otter (a nod to Yoshida’s past work) recur, while the underlying theme remains that the joy of going out is inseparable from having a place—and people—to come back to.
