Thirty-three-year-old Akiko Kakinouchi has ended up managing a general store called Wahldo in Tokyo, barely keeping the business afloat and feeling stuck in life. One evening on her way home she finds a cardboard box marked "Please pick me up" and out pops a funky-looking elderly woman named Atsuko, who has come to the city looking for someone. Against her better judgment, Akiko lets the eighty-year-old Atsuko move into her shabby apartment, and the two women begin an unlikely cohabitation. Atsuko's fearless, eccentric energy gradually drags Akiko out of her rut, pushing her into new experiences such as a minor acting job, a beach trip with their landlord, and even helping with Atsuko's K-pop idol fandom. The landlord, who runs a bar across from the store, becomes a steady presence in their lives. The story unfolds as a slapstick yet heartfelt comedy of domestic chaos, with Atsuko's mysterious past slowly emerging: she once lived with another woman who later shows up to take her back. Over the course of three volumes, Akiko and Atsuko navigate financial struggles, unexpected windfalls, and the question of how to live life on one's own terms, culminating in a resolution that sees both characters embrace the idea of a "summer vacation" for adults and choose the paths they truly want.
