Robert Kotulla is a German actor and voice artist, born in Berlin in 1968. He pursued his passion for performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where he studied from 1995 to 1999. During his time there, he and his classmates were honored with the Ensemble Prize at the Schauspielschultreffen in Munich for their work in the play Pioniere in Ingolstadt. Following his graduation, Kotulla gained experience on the stage, performing at theaters in Lübeck and Hamburg, which laid a strong foundation for his subsequent career in film, television, and voice acting. From 2003 to 2012, he was a permanent ensemble member at the Imperial Theater in Hamburg, where he became well-known for his roles in numerous crime drama productions, including playing Dr. Watson in The Hound of the Baskervilles and Sergeant Trotter in The Mousetrap.

While Kotulla's on-screen appearances include guest roles in German television series such as Tatort, Großstadtrevier, and Bella Block, he is most widely recognized for his extensive work as a voice actor. He is particularly renowned within the anime community for providing the German voice for the character Gaara across the entire Naruto franchise, including Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, and multiple feature films. His portfolio includes a wide array of other significant anime roles. He voices Tatsuma Sakamoto in the series Gintama and its film adaptation. In the Bungo Stray Dogs franchise, he is the voice of Ougai Mori, appearing in the television series and the film Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple. His other notable credits include Death the Kid in Soul Eater, Ebisu in Noragami Aragoto, and Ibara Obami in Kakegurui. He also took on the role of Eiji Todoroki in Tribe Nine and voiced Riva in Glitter Force Doki Doki.

Beyond anime, Kotulla's voice is familiar to German audiences from various other genres. He is the German voice of Allen Haff in the reality television series Auction Hunters and has lent his voice to characters in western animations like Thomas & Friends, Chuggington, and Bob's Burgers. In addition to his work in front of the microphone, Kotulla has also contributed behind the scenes as a dialogue book author and dialogue director. His directorial credits for German dubs include the anime series Strike the Blood, Seirei Gensouki - Spirit Chronicles, and Back Street Girls: Gokudols, as well as the animated series Pokémon Generations.
