Detlef Bierstedt is a German actor and voice actor, born on June 10, 1952, in Berlin. He trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in East Berlin from 1973 to 1976 and began his career on the stage, with engagements at theaters in Potsdam and East Berlin, as well as roles in DEFA film and television productions. Following his move to West Germany in 1985, he continued to take on guest roles in television series while his voice acting career became increasingly prominent.

Bierstedt is widely recognized for his extensive work in dubbing, providing the German voice for numerous international stars, including George Clooney, Bill Pullman, John C. Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, and Jonathan Frakes. His voice is also familiar from animated series such as American Dad!, where he has voiced Stan Smith since 2006.

Within the realm of anime, Bierstedt has lent his voice to a wide array of characters across many popular series and films. His credits include the role of Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers: Invasion, Commander Lance in Appleseed: Ex Machina, and Sawada in the OVA series Karas. He is particularly noted for his long association with the Detective Conan franchise, where he has voiced the character Yusaku Kudou, starting with the first four seasons of the television series and later reprising the role. This includes his work on the Aoyama Gōshō Tanpen-shū and Aoyama Gōshō Tanpen-shū 2 OVAs.

His other notable anime roles span a wide range of productions. He voiced Alex Louis Armstrong in both the Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood series. He also played Simon Brezhnev in Durarara!!, Kambei Shimada in Samurai 7, Kagetoki Kariya in Samurai Champloo, Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki in Fairy Tail, and the Puppetmaster in a new dub of Ghost in the Shell. His film work includes a role in Millennium Actress.

In 2022, Bierstedt announced his retirement from dubbing work, citing time and stress as reasons, in order to dedicate himself fully to audio dramas and audiobooks. He is the father of Marie Bierstedt, who is also a successful voice actor.
