Grant James was an American actor and voice actor known for his extensive work in English-language dubs of anime series, primarily with Funimation and ADV Films. Born on June 19, 1935, he had a long career in entertainment that spanned film, television, and stage work before becoming a prolific voice in anime. He was married to fellow voice actor Juli Erickson for 36 years, and together they taught acting classes in Dallas, Texas, earning them recognition as influential figures in the local acting community. James passed away on November 23, 2022, at the age of 87.

His voice acting career included a wide array of roles, often portraying older, wise, or authoritative characters. He was a regular presence in dubs produced in the 2000s and 2010s. Among his many credits, he voiced Lancelot Douglas in the fantasy series The Sacred Blacksmith, a role confirmed in Funimation's official casting announcement. He also provided the voice for Number Zero, the enigmatic leader of the spy organization in the series 009-1. In the anime film Hal, he voiced the character Tokio. Additionally, he played the role of Mr. Outside in Eden of the East: Paradise Lost.

Beyond these specific roles, James built an extensive filmography with credits in some of the most popular and long-running anime series. He was well known for voicing the tough but caring chef Zeff in the Funimation dub of One Piece. His other notable anime credits included roles in Fullmetal Alchemist (as Scar's Master in Brotherhood), Dragon Ball Z, Detective Conan, Fairy Tail, Darker than Black, Samurai 7, and Baki the Grappler, among many others.
