Christopher Ayres was an American voice actor, ADR director, and scriptwriter known for his extensive work in English dubs of anime series. Born Christopher Owen Ayres on May 16, 1965, he began his career in voice acting in the early 2000s and was active in the industry until his passing in 2021. He was the brother of fellow voice actor Greg Ayres, and the two frequently appeared in projects together.
Ayres is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of the iconic villain Frieza in the Dragon Ball franchise. He first took on the role for Dragon Ball Z Kai in 2010 and continued to voice the character in subsequent projects, including the film Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F and the series Dragon Ball Super. His final performance as Frieza was in the 2018 feature film Dragon Ball Super: Broly, a role he reprised despite battling a serious illness, demonstrating his dedication to the character and the series.
Beyond his signature role, Ayres had a prolific career voicing a wide array of characters. In the series Black Butler, he provided the voice of the lively Prince Soma Asman Kadar, a role he held until the Book of Murder OVA.
