Faye Mata

Description
Faye Mata is an American voice actress known for her extensive work in English dubs of anime, animation, and video games. Born on September 2, 1992, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she is of Japanese-Filipino descent. Before pursuing voice acting, Mata was a semi-professional competitive gamer who competed in major esports tournaments such as the Evolution Championship Series (EVO), Pokémon Worlds, and appeared on the SyFy reality series WCG Ultimate Gamer under the gamertag "Princess Aura". This background in high-stakes gaming, particularly in fighting games like Super Smash Bros., later informed her approach to voicing characters in interactive media.

Mata transitioned to voice acting by relocating to Los Angeles and securing auditions, often through open calls at events like those held by Bang Zoom Entertainment. Her early career in the mid-2010s involved landing minor roles in anime dubs and animation, building a foundation for future prominence.

Her breakthrough role that bridged her gaming and voice acting careers was as Lulu, the Fae Sorceress, in the globally popular game League of Legends. This role garnered attention from the gaming community and established her within the industry. In anime, she gained widespread recognition for her performance as the vain and comically dramatic goddess Aqua in the popular isekai parody series KonoSuba, a role she has reprised in films like Legend of Crimson and the crossover series Isekai Quartet. Her versatility is further demonstrated by voicing the antagonistic and scheming princess Malty S. Melromarc (also known as Myne) in The Rising of the Shield Hero, a character she has described as one of her most difficult and disliked roles due to the character's nature.

Mata's filmography includes a wide array of notable anime characters. She voices Rin Hoshizora, a spirited member of the school idol group μ's, in the Love Live! franchise, including the film The School Idol Movie. She played the cunning and ruthless gambler Yumemi Yumemite in Kakegurui. In the psychological thriller Magia Record, she voiced Kuroe, a key character in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica side story. Her role as Aoi Hinami, the skilled and competitive protagonist in Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, showcases her ability to portray complex, driven characters. She also lent her voice to Fukaziroh in Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, Lily Hoshina in B: The Beginning, Yukie Kanoko in Godzilla Singular Point, and Ayumu Mutō in the Netflix series Japan Sinks: 2020. Additional prominent anime credits include Yukako Yamagishi in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, Astolfo in Fate/Apocrypha, and multiple roles in Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World.

Beyond anime, Mata has a significant presence in Western animation. She is well-known as the voice of Kagami Tsurugi, the kendo-practicing rival-turned-ally, in the long-running series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. She has also appeared in adult animated series, voicing the demon newscaster Katie Killjoy in the pilot of Hazbin Hotel and the twin imps Glitz and Glam in an episode of Helluva Boss.

Her voice acting work in video games is extensive. In addition to Lulu in League of Legends, she portrays Jade in the hit RPG Honkai: Star Rail. In the fighting game genre, she voiced NiCO in Dead or Alive Fighter 6, characters whose fighting styles connect to her own competitive gaming history. She is also the voice of Petra Macneary in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Ling Xiaoyu in the animated series Tekken: Bloodline, and has roles in numerous other games including AI: The Somnium Files and its sequel, Rune Factory 5, and Granblue Fantasy Versus.

Mata has received industry recognition for her work, winning the Behind The Voice Actors People's Choice Award for Best Female Vocal Performance in an Anime Television Series/OVA Supporting Role for her performance as Astolfo in 2018. She remains active in the gaming community as a Twitch streamer, where she plays games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and hosts charity streams, having raised money for organizations such as The Bail Project and Direct Relief. She is also signed with the esports organization Panda.
