Kelly Sheridan
Description
Kelly Sheridan is a Canadian voice actress born on May 19, 1977, in Ottawa, Ontario. She grew up in Vancouver and developed an interest in performance at a young age, studying at the Vancouver Youth Theatre. She later attended Simon Fraser University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre in 2001.
Sheridan is prolific in the field of animation, providing voices for numerous English-language dubs of Japanese anime series and original animated productions. Her work is primarily associated with Ocean Productions and other Vancouver-based voice studios. One of her most prominent and long-running roles is voicing the character Sango in the popular anime series InuYasha. She first took on the role in the initial English dub of the series in 2002 and continued it for subsequent films, the final series InuYasha: The Final Act, and reprised the role for the sequel series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon beginning in 2020.
Beyond her iconic role in the InuYasha franchise, Sheridan has a diverse portfolio in anime dubbing. She is the voice of Princess Leona in the 2020 English adaptation of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. She portrayed the lead character Shuurei Kou in The Story of Saiunkoku. In the Ranma ½ franchise, she voiced the okonomiyaki chef Ukyo Kuonji for the Viz Media dub. Her other anime credits include the role of Sylvia Nimrod in Meltylancer: The Animation, Hinako Shiratori in Ultimate Teacher, and Yuriko Hiraga in Master Keaton. She has also been credited with roles in series such as Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, The Vision of Escaflowne, Nana, and Black Lagoon.
While widely recognized for her anime work, Sheridan is perhaps best known globally as the primary voice of the character Barbie in the long-running series of direct-to-video Barbie computer-animated films from 2001 to 2015, with a brief hiatus between 2010 and 2012. Her other significant voice roles in Western animation include Starlight Glimmer in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Diana Lombard in Martin Mystery, Theresa in Class of the Titans, and Mammoth Mutt in Krypto the Superdog.
A notable aspect of Sheridan's career is her frequent return to iconic roles, such as Sango in the InuYasha franchise and Barbie in the film series. This consistency has made her a familiar and beloved voice to audiences across multiple generations of animation fans. She has been a member of the Genus Theatre Company since August 2005.
