Description
Deep in the Japanese countryside, a young man named Minato Kusunoki is assigned to manage a newly built estate that belongs to his family. The house has a fearsome reputation, supposedly overflowing with evil spirits that have driven away all previous caretakers. However, when Minato arrives, his presence alone begins to change things. Without fully understanding how, he possesses an extraordinary spiritual ability that inadvertently purifies the entire residence, clearing out the malevolent forces as easily as if he were sweeping dust from the floorboards.

The newly cleansed Kusunoki residence, particularly its garden, soon takes on a different kind of energy. Rather than remaining empty, it becomes a beacon that attracts a steady procession of unique and peculiar gods. The first and most prominent of these divine neighbors is the god of the neighboring mountain, simply called Yamagami, a large, wolf-like spirit who makes himself comfortable on the veranda. Other deities soon follow, including the sake-loving turtle god Ouryuu, a kirin with a taste for brand-name beer, and the phoenix Houou, each drawn to the peace and comfort of Minato's purified home. Minato, a remarkably easygoing young man, takes this supernatural influx in stride, learning to coexist with his new spiritual neighbors who now laze about his garden, enjoy his hospitality, and offer their blessings in return.

The setting is this almost magical estate, where the garden itself begins to change at the whim of the resident gods, transforming through seasons spontaneously or manifesting hot springs overnight. The daily life of the series revolves around quiet, low-stakes activities: Minato preparing wagashi for the mountain god, buying sake for the turtle, or simply writing calligraphy with different inks and papers. His mundane-seeming handwriting is revealed to be a source of immense spiritual power, capable of creating potent talismans that he unknowingly sells to the government-employed onmyoji, Saiga Harima. Saiga, a modern exorcist, quickly recognizes the value of Minato's ability and becomes a frequent visitor, bridging the gap between the peaceful garden and the outside world where evil spirits still pose a threat.

The narrative unfolds through episodic encounters as new gods wander into the garden, each bringing their own quirks and demands. One notable arc involves the arrival of Fujin and Raijin, the gods of wind and thunder, adding to the household's lively chaos. While the central focus is on iyashikei-style relaxation and the growing bonds between Minato and his divine housemates, there are gentle undercurrents of a larger world. The onmyoji bureau, run by Saiga, deals with seasonal surges in malevolent spirits, and Minato finds himself inadvertently drawn into these affairs, his garden serving as a neutral ground between the human and spiritual realms. Through it all, Minato slowly becomes more aware of his own unique power, even as he continues to prioritize a peaceful life, enjoying the simple pleasure of a sunny afternoon surrounded by gods.
