Renako Amaori, a former gloomy loner who successfully reinvented herself for a sparkling high school debut, finds her new life thrown into chaos when two of the school’s most popular girls confess their love for her at the same time. One is the charismatic and beautiful prince-like figure Mai Oduka, and the other is the gentle and angelic Ajisai Sena. Still struggling to process this impossible situation and avoid giving either girl an answer, Renako agrees to help her energetic friend Kaho Koyanagi with a cosplay event, hoping the distraction will buy her more time.

Set at Ashigaya High School, a co-ed public preparatory school, the story follows Renako as she navigates the delicate social dynamics of the top-tier group she belongs to, known as the Quintet. As she participates in the cosplay event, witnessing Kaho’s genuine passion and dedication firsthand, Renako begins to feel something stir within her, forcing her to confront questions she has long avoided. What does she truly want? What is she searching for in these relationships? And is it really so impossible for her to become someone’s lover?.

This theatrical edition compiles episodes thirteen through seventeen, continuing directly from the television series. The central narrative arc focuses on Renako and Kaho, using cosplay as a metaphor for performance and identity. While Renako is still processing the confessions from Mai and Ajisai, her renewed friendship with Kaho forces her to confront her deep-seated feelings of unworthiness and imposter syndrome, as she has spent so long pretending to be a popular extrovert that she has lost sight of her authentic self. Kaho, who initially appears as a purely cheerful and chaotic presence, is revealed to share many of Renako’s insecurities, using cosplay both as a form of freedom and as a mask to hide behind. Through their interactions and the pressure of the upcoming event, Renako must finally begin to question whether she deserves to be loved and what it would truly mean to stop running from her own heart.
