Description
Following Naraku's defeat and the lifting of his hereditary Wind Tunnel curse, Miroku married fellow demon slayer Sango and started a family. The loss of this formidable yet cursed weapon created a significant gap in his capabilities. Facing increasingly powerful demonic threats, he recognized his vulnerability and made the difficult decision to leave his family, undertaking intensive 1,000-day training in the mountains. This solitary regimen aimed to cultivate his innate Buddhist powers to divine levels, seeking enlightenment and the ability to combat demons without the Wind Tunnel.

His appearance reflected the passage of time and ascetic rigors, presenting an older, weathered figure. This absence strained his relationship with his son, Hisui, who initially misinterpreted the retreat as cowardice, abandoning the frontline demon slaying that Hisui and his uncle continued. Miroku clarified his withdrawal was not flight but a necessary step to gain divine power for formidable foes, cryptically referencing a past encounter revealing his limitations.

Miroku's dedication yielded substantial advancements in his considerable Buddhist powers. He achieved the capability to erect powerful spiritual barriers, demonstrated by temporarily containing the dangerous Grim Butterfly. He honed skills in purification and demonic energy suppression. A critical demonstration involved placing a powerful seal on Setsuna, one of Sesshōmaru's twin half-demon daughters, specifically designed to suppress her demonic bloodline and prevent berserk states triggered by uncontrolled yōkai power surges.

His training was interrupted when the demon Totetsu, a member of the Four Perils possessing a Rainbow Pearl and specializing in devouring holy men, targeted Miroku due to his perceived purity of heart. During the ensuing battle alongside Hisui, Towa, and Setsuna, Miroku faced Totetsu's defenses, including an air-sucking ability reminiscent of his lost Wind Tunnel. Unable to overcome the demon, a desperate Setsuna demanded Miroku remove her seal. Complying, he released the restraint, allowing her full demonic power and inherited poison abilities to manifest, driving Totetsu away. Miroku promptly recast the seal afterward to restore control.

This encounter became pivotal for Miroku and Hisui. Witnessing his father's resolve and spiritual strength fostered newfound respect in Hisui, who pledged support for Miroku's remaining 200 days. While focused on his spiritual path, Miroku maintained a connection to his family. Hisui later visited Sango, depicted living a quieter life. His prior sealing of Setsuna and their interaction during Totetsu's attack indicate his awareness and involvement in the affairs of the half-demon princesses and ongoing threats.
